So this is a short one because my battery is LOW. I've gotten through the first week of my job unscathed - yet TIRED as heck. Since i've been so busy, I havent had much time to check out volunteer opportunities...Ironically, that seems to be the hardest thing to secure. i have to find something that has hours I can work with (especially when I start classes..)
There is a medical center near my new place, so on monday I'm going to call the volunteer services department to see where I can go with that.
yikes my comp is about to shut down - to be continued.....
BUY MILK, GET CAR WASHED, RETURN DVD, GET INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL -.... The personal experiences of a non-traditional undergrad student and her adventures down the crazy, winding path of Pre-Med life.

Tomorrow, bright and early.
Alarm set: 6am. First day of work tomorrow and I have my clothes all laid out and little brown bag lunch all packed. I haven't actually gotten up for work in a while, so this should be interesting.
Now that I have a full time job, there is certainly no room for shadowing. Unless I find something at an ED rather than fam practice... I'll look into that at some point.

GPA calculator: reality check.
So I had to check out those gpa calculators... I'm not sure of I've blogged about it yet , but I have a few min before work so why not...
I had to calculate what kind of grades I need to boost my gpa to where I need them to be. Ive already done like 150 credits so it won't boost that much but basically, I need A's across the board for two straight semesters. Ugh! In light of this depressing realization, I'm thinkin of swapping Organic for an elective. I'm not sure I can handle physics, orgo, and genetics in one semester. It's torture... A deadly combo, I've heard.
So when I get home, I'm going to take a look at the list of electives I have.
I was obsessed last night with how badly my gpa can hurt my chances.. I read that a great mcat score can offset poor gpa's. so, added pressure: rock the mcat.
What an adventure... Time for work!!

Tomorrow, bright and early
Alarm: 6am. First day of work tomorrow! I have my clothes all laid out, my brown bag lunch all good to go. It's been a while since I've had to get up early for work. It's been MONTHS. Actually, now I can say it's been years. The last job I had was across the street from where I lived. Ironically, I was usually late because I took advantage of the proximity and lost track of time.
Anyways, so I hope I acclimate to the "work life-style" quickly. I have almost fallen asleep at my desk before. Shh..
So I have organized a study method for the mcat books that I borrowed. So as to not overwhelm myself with this stuff, I'm going one book at a time. I'm starting with the Biology. I figure I can save the verbal for last since that is my strongest... The first section "cell bio" kicked my ass - it's been a while. Sure, cell bio isnt the hardest but when it comes to memorizing those transport chains, its a bitch. I think I'll have a better time with the muscle system.
Oh, back to the job situation. Since I have a new FULL TIME job, it doesnt look like I'll have any time for shadowing. I'll have to look into doing something over the weekend. I've heard that the most feasible way to do that is to find something in an ED. I haven't checked into that route yet, but I will.
Last order of business, I have to register for classes!!! I think that either tomorrow or the day after, I can.
Honestly, I still cant decide between genetics and cell bio. Grrr. I might go with genetics because first, I've already taken it, and secondly, I already borrowed the book.
That's all for now. Next up, look into the ED shadowing, work on prepping for mcat. (I'm not going to take any formal classes....)
